THE VISITOR.

LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?

QUESTION SEVEN:
when looking back on the preliminairy task and what we learnt from it, the improvements are so clear to see. Without doing a preliminairy task 'The Visior' would have fallen to absolute peices. i felt that after the failure of the preliminary task, we really pulled together as a group to makesure that all elements of our film where covered to a high standard.

in our preliminary task, we obviously didnt have very much to organise as we wrote a basic scripe with very little direction, this resulted in us not being able to get very much out of our actors because they just went of their own interpretation which didnt really work to our advantage. however, when working through the scriptwriting and directing of our final peice we made sure it was alot more thorrough, so that our final peiece wasnt hindered by the lack of direction from us to our actors.

the importance of mise en scene was also very easily picked up on in our final peice. when evaluating our preliminary task we thought about how unbelievable it was, a doctors surgery clearly set in a school cantene? this was as a result of a lack of time to prepare and little thought going into the process. when decided where to stage the visitor alot more thought went into how apropriate alot of our places would be to shoot in, and i think our final decisions really reflect our hard work and long thought processes.

our techniques with using the technology where clearly alot more improved aswell. our shots are alot clearer and far more thought through. in our preliminairy, we didnt use any music or titles, and when finishing our final task- we realised how important both these elements are in producing a good level of work.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?

QUESTION SIX:
During the making of the visitor i was introduced to a number of new technologies, they are as follows:
- Apple Macs
- Tripods
- Digital Video Camera
- Digital Camera

Before the visitor, i was familiar with using a digital camera for social reasons, covering family events and birthdays- covering such events, the shots used unknowingly where handy cam shots. My usage of the camera was usually very shaky and had very little strategic use at all. However, when learning about the importance of a steady camera shot and the usage of the tripod and strategic ways of holding the camera and placing it, this was all changed and reflected in the visitor.
also with learning the importance of the stready shots i also came to grips with the effect of the different types of shots and how they can differently portray a different representation.

Getting to grips with using the Mac computer was probably the hardest thing of all. usually using a PC, coming to the mac computer was very alien to me. becoming comfortable with it was quite difficuly but by the time the editing came around i was within my comfort zone with the different softwares. This came with my playing around during the preliminairy stage and just working out how everything worked without being shadowed or directly tutored on how the softwares work and this isnt how i work most effectively, i enjoyed playing with the editing programmes and mastering the use via trial and error. Some of the main skills i learnt where:
- how to succesfully operate iMovie HD
- the 'screen grab' (similar to print screen on Windows)

When the mac software didnt allow us to do what we needed to, we went a little futher and used internet websites which allowed us to take our project a step further. for example www.slideshare.net allowed us to upload powerpoint presentations which helped alot in the research process as it was alot easier to draw up tables and contrasts etc.
also, www.dafont.com allowed us to take our titles to another level by not just restricting outselves to the simples fonts that the macs had to offer which the other groups resticted themselves too.

i feel that overall the amount of knowledge ive been able to gain from has been phenomenal. ive learned how to operate a whole new type of technology and how to use a number of different internet tools.

how did you adress/attract your target audience?

QUESTION FIVE:
when thinking about storyboarding our final peice we directly thought about representing as many different on screen ages, genders and races as we could to try and grab the biggest audience possible... although our target audience is 15-24year olds, we are still able to lure in alot more people. in our first few jumpshots we strategically represented both male and female, children, adolescent and adults of white, black and mixed races. Even more strategically, we managed to twist the immediate aura of the characters by the ways that we dressed them, for example our mother was dressed in black boots and a long black coat to break the maternal connection from her and drive it more to the teenager- automatically we placed the teenager in a responsible position by doing this which also leaves her more vunerable.

The thinking behind making the au pair young was to allor our younger viewers to be able to directly relate to her, making the visiotr the psycholigcally thrilling experience a 10/10 for them.. as immediately when the teenager comes on screen- they can directly relate.

who would be the audience for your media project?

QUESTION FOUR.
SSSN have decided that our film will be rated a 15. in the last few years according to the BBFC the most common age rating issued since 2009 is 15- meaning that the market for this age era is absolutely booming right now and we want to fall straight into this growing sensation. 'Only 49 films rated at 18 were released in 2009 compared to 223 films with a BBFC rating of 15' and 'Only 2 of the certificate 18 films broke the 10 million profit margin.' indicating that the success of 15 films are far greater than that of films of any higher rating.
our film deals with some issues unsuitable for younger children so having it as a 12 would be totally inapropriate.
also, with the biggest cinema following agr group being the 15-24year olds, we feel that this is the right age group to get our film the publicity it needs.

what kind of media distribution might distribute your media project and why?

QUESTION3
we chose new line cinema to distribute our project as it produced most of the major films that inspired out storyline for 'the visitor'. thrillers with the new line print are automatically respected because of the level of knowledge with films that new line cinema has accumulated over theyre long years in film production. we would hope that new line cinema would re-direct the same amount passion into the production of our film.
New line cinema tends to produce films that are made on a high budget hollywood american scale so, accepting our film idea on board may be an issue for them. but hopefully they would see past our low budget and see deeper into our psychological thriller.

general institution information:
once our film is finally produced it will be shown across a variety of commercial and independent cinemas such as the odeon, vue and cineworlds.. also picture houses.

hopefully after great cinema success, our film will go on to be released in all major media outlets, such as HMV, amazon and play.com.
